Formation of VFK

Some experienced missionaries, pastors from the “two-thirds world”, and doctoral students in the School of World Mission at Fuller Theological Seminary decided to make a global network for mission; not just a plain network, but an international fellowship, a koinonia, through which we can touch the world for Christ. The trend of globalization made us think about our mission in a different way which would be more faithful to the Lord in a changing world. As many of the students were going to go back to their countries after their studies, we had to ask ourselves whether we would do our own ministry by ourselves after we returned to our respective countries. Instead, we agreed that each one of us was called to do our mission for the Kingdom of God. Thus, seeking first the Kingdom of God, we tried to be united in Christ, supported each other, and did the global mission strategically together.

We believed that, in our spiritual journey, God had a purpose in bringing us to Fuller Theological Seminary. We believed God wanted us to have at Fuller not only faithful and excellent professors, but also soul friends and co-workers in Christ, for His glory. As we go, we do mission. Thus, we understood that everyday encounters with other servants of God could be an important part of our mission. We had dreamed and prayed that God would do great things through our everyday friendship with other servants of God.

We thought that after many of us went back to our countries, we would be able to do mission cooperatively. We believed that each of our visions could be fused into one without losing the uniqueness and independence of each one’s ministry and mission. We believed that we could see a bigger picture and do a bigger mission, letting others around us be blessed through us through our unity. We believed that a bigger vision would emerge from, with, and for the Kingdom of God when we are united in Christ. It would become His, not ours.

We started out prayer for this vision in 1997.  After 6 years of prayer and ups and downs, we were able to be registered as VISION FOR THE KINGDOM in May 15, 2003.
